How Is Biltong Made?
It’s Simple… So Simple
Step 1
Select the Meat
Typically top round beef sliced into 1” strips.
Step 2
Marinade & Seasoning
Strips are marinated in vinegar and seasoned with salt, pepper and roasted coriander which gives it its unique flavor – this is the Original Flavor.
For our Spicy Chili we add some red pepper, while for Garlic & Herb we add some rosemary, garlic and onion for the perfect flavor.
Step 3
Let it Dry
Strips are hung to air-dry in a climate controlled room for up to 7 days – losing more than 50% of its moisture content. This is main difference to Jerky (which is cooked in short period of time) and the key step beyond the seasoning that accentuates the flavor and leads to the tenderness of our Biltong.
Step 4
Slice it Up
Next is to cut meat (against the grain) into thin slices.
Step 5
Pack & Seal
Finally, Biltong is packed into individual 2 oz bags. It includes an oxygen absorber packet (please do not consume) to avoid humidity build-up.
Product shelf-life is one year when stored in a cool, dry place – but we bet it will be gone much sooner!
